Description: This dramatic sheep horn hunter is a style that Bill and I first jokingly called a "stubby". The blade is wider than his standard sheep horn hunters, while being relatively short. The dramatic appearance is matched with exceptional cutting ability created by this unique shape. It is a perfect knife for detail work.
This is the sort of knife that if you were stuck out in the woods or on a desert island and only had one tool, this would be it. It was pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treatment is a highly detailed process that was developed between Mastersmith Ed Fowler and Bill Burke after years of trial and experimentation. This technique, involving low temperature forging, triple quenching and triple tempering creates some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere. A differential heat treatment results in a blade with a soft, supportive spine and a keen, long lasting edge. Bill's mark is on the left side of the blade, with his M.S. mark on the right.
The handle combines sheep horn with a brass guard. The guard protects your fingers from moving onto the blade's edge and brings the weight to the center of the knife. When wet, sheep horn does not become slippery, and it is amazingly durable. A spacer is created by taking two sheep horn end cuts and aligning them outward, producing a very pleasing effect. The knife is accompanied by a sturdy, 14 oz. waxed leather pouch style sheath. An extremely comfortable handle. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
