Description: Jonny Walker Nilsson is one the true masters of the Sami styled knife. His work has been recognized for its innovations while working within this very traditional medium. Mattias Styrefors is one of the true masters of Damascus steel. Since 2006, Jonny and Mattias, long time friends, began working together and sharing their arts. The results are exceptional!
The blade uses the san mai technique. A central 20C carbon steel bar is forge welded to a layer of pure nickel, which in turn was forge welded to a complex mosaic damascus featuring stars and scorpions. The scorpions have tremendous detail.
The stacked handle begins with a cross cut section of exhibition grade desert ironwood. Two layers of fossil mammoth ivory, one cream tones and one caramel toned, separate the ironwood from the carved fossil walrus ivory handle. The ivory is meticulously hand engraved in a traditional Sami motif (the pattern is not scrimshaw, it is hand engraving darkened with pine bark powder).
The knife is accompanied by a traditional Swedish leather pouch style sheath. It has been hand tooled Exceptional work throughout!
