Description: Since 2006 Mastersmith Bill Burke has been influenced by Japanese knives and techniques. The fusion between his high performance knives and Japanese techniques has produced some of the most dramatic knives seen in the knife industry.
The long clip point blade was forged from W2 carbon steel. Bill heat treated it using traditional Japanese techniques -- by water quenching and clay tempering. This technique results in a hamon (clay heat treatment line) that travels along the blade -- showing the transition between the soft, supportive spine and the ultra-hard, keen edge.
Both the oval guard and pommel are forged from Bill's own damascus, beginning with carbon steels. The pommel has been carved so as to match the texture of the stag handle. A mokume gane ferrule sets between the guard and stag handle. The damascene layers were forged from Shakudo and fine silver. Shakudo is an alloy combining 4% gold with 96% copper. The combination of fine silver and Shakudo results in a striking bold damascene pattern combining silver and black tones.
The knife is accompanied by a hand tooled leather sheath. Exceptional fit and finish throughout!
