Description: This dramatic fantasy dark ages-style reliquary sculpture was created by hand forging, engraving and carving O1 carbon steel, mild steel, wrought iron and copper. It is a modern, playful, one-of-a-kind take on medieval saint reliquaries of St. George and the Dragon.
The spear is the remains of the spear used by St. George to kill the dragon. Most of the spear shaft has burned away and reveals the spear's tang hidden within. The spear blade is an armor-piercing style designed to slide between and beneath a dragon's steel-hard scales. The blade shows battle scars throughout. It was hand forged, etched, engraved, and carved from O1 carbon steel. A copper dragon's head ornaments the ferrule.
The mummified dragon toe and claw relic has tremendous character. The claw is hand forged, from ancient Whidbey Island, WA wrought iron anchor chain. It has been hot blued and engraved in Celtic knot work. English holly has been carved into the mummified remains of the dragon's toe with a section of moose antler representing the remains of the dragon's bone.
The reliquary is accompanied by a hand carved black walnut display stand in the form of a dying dragon with mild steel and copper furniture. The dragon's eye is formed from holly.
The fully assembled reliquary measures approximately 25 inches in height. The spear measures 23 3/4 inches overall. An exceptionally dramatic and playful handmade, one-of-a-kind relic!
