Description: This Kwaiken shows Scott's sense of design and fit and finish at its best. The hamon shows a clear differential heat treat created by traditional Japanese clay tempering. The result is a super-hard edge for sharpness and a softer, resilient spine. The hamon turns back at the tip and travels along the spine. Fittings throughout -- from menuki (grip ornaments, cast by Scott) to habaki (blade collar, which protects the blade while in the sheath) and tsuba (sword guard) are all formed from sterling silver. The left side menuki depicts a squirrel, whereas the right side show a running rabbit. Silver Hare can be fully disassembled using a traditional central pin. Both the handle and the sheath are formed from highly polished buckeye burl. The wood has a tremendous swirling grain structure and combines grey and blonde tones. Excellent fit and finish throughout!
