Description: Old Hickory is among Raymond Richard's masterpieces to date. This large Bowie is nearly a sword when wielded in the hand.
The large blade has a graceful false edge that moves along the spine. This pulls the weight out of the blade and creates an aggressive point on a knife that is far easier to maneuver than its size would suggest. An appleseed grind ensures a very strong edge. The blade was differentially heat treated using a traditional Japanese technique. Prior to quenching, the spine was coated with clay. This results in a soft, supportive spine, with a keen, long lasting edge. The undulating heat treatment line is called a hamon.
The S-guard and other fittings are hand forged from antiqued iron. The antiqued handle is formed from an exceptional piece of very rare curly hickory. A slight downward curve to the handle makes it extremely comfortable and secure in the hand. Excellent fit and finish throughout with a great balance.
