Description: Canadian bladesmith Mark Banfield created this exceptional hand forged bowie.
The blade was forged from 1080 carbon steel and has a clay temper line (hamon). This heat treatment technique is found on Japanese swords. By coating the spine of the blade in clay, the spine remains soft, while the cutting edge is extremely hard for a keen, long lasting edge. The resulting gently undulating heat treatment line is called a hamon. A 400 grit hand satin finish lends tremendous refinement. The clip is brought to a false edge. The guard was forged from antique wrought iron recovered from an 1800s era log staple originally used in the forestry industry. The handle was formed from a moose antler crown and is seated with a textured and darkened pin. A eagle's head is carved into the end of the antler. Exceptional work throughout!
