Description: Bill Burke, who was honored as a Master Smith June 2008, makes knives that are as high performance as they can get -- the sort of knife that if you were stuck out in the woods or on a desert island and only had one tool, this would be it. Each knife is pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treatment is a highly detailed process that was developed between Mastersmith Ed Fowler and Bill Burke after years of trial and experimentation. This technique, involving low temperature forging, triple quenching and triple tempering creates some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere. A differential heat treatment results in a blade with a soft, supportive spine and a keen, long lasting edge. Bill's mark is on the left side of the blade. M.S. (for master smith) is marked on the right side of the blade.
This unique Gent's Bowie features the same edge retention as the sheep horn knives that he is so well known for. The blade was forged to shape at low temperature from 52100 carbon steel. A triple quench and triple temper result in combined resilience and edge holding. A clip results in an aggressive tip. Mammoth ivory scales are secured with stainless pins. The distal tapered full tang results in superior strength. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
