Description: Master Smith Daniel Winkler and Karen Shook work together to create knives that have a timeless beauty that will quickly become family heirlooms. Their name is well known in re-enactment circles throughout the world and movie buffs may recognize their work in films such as Last of the Mohicans. Their knives have an authenticity rarely found in other maker's work.
This rustic Belt Knife has a dramatic sense of presence. The 1095 carbon steel blade was forged to shape from an old Nickelson file. At the spine and flats, Daniel has left the file's texture intact. An antique finish sets the tone. Filework on the spine continues from tip, to ricasso, and through the full tang (both on top and bottom). Both the tang and the blade have been distal tapered for optimal balance.
Jet black ebony scales are set onto the full tang. Nickel silver liners have been meticulously fileworked and surround the tang. The mild steel guard is dovetailed to the scales for a perfect finish. The handle is completed with a mild steel pommel.
The knife is accompanied by a sheath by Karen Shook. The frontier style sheath is formed from rawhide that has been covered with deer skin. Leather tassels and beads complete the presentation. Exceptional work throughout!
