Description: This majestic Japanese influenced katana is the work of Journeyman Smith Michael Rader. Michael forged the long, slender blade to shape from his own Damascus starting with 8660 and 15N20 carbon steels. By forging the blade to shape, Michael has assured exceptional strength and beauty -- the Damascus pattern follows the shape of the upturned blade. The steel has a dramatic mix of bold and fine patterns, making the blade both fascinating from a distance and captivating up close.
The handle and saya are both formed from Peruvian walnut with mesquite wood accents. The woodwork, a hallmark of Michael's style is particularly well done. At the front of the handle, Michael has finished it with alternating copper and G10 spacers. This allows the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. Exceptional!
