Description: This exceptional three tailed flail is a collaborative effort between Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey and their apprentice De Wet Van Zyl. Their combined skill and inventiveness really shines through on this piece.
The Middle Ages was an extremely violent era in history. Feudal lords and knights used such weapons as the flail in different types of warfare. The flail was predominantly used by knights and foot soldiers and was quite a powerful offensive weapon. This flail would certainly have been the envy of any knight or foot soldier!
The weighted spikes are forged from damascus. These are held by hand forged chain with alternating wrought iron and damascus links. The wrought iron is recovered from 1800s era wagon wheels. The haft is formed from a twist pattern damascus rod. The twisted copper wire handle provides a sure grip. The pommel is formed from wrought iron recovered from an ox-wagon wheel rim. Fileworked brass spacers separate the pommel from a skull crusher.
Each of the chains measure 35 inches in length. The damascus haft measures approximately 27 inches. Each link is approximately 2 1/2 inches in length. Each of the spike/weights is approximately 2.2 inches long. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
