Description: Garri Dadyan, born in Baku, Azerbaijan, was named a National Master Artist of the Soviet Union in 1985 for his unparalleled mastery of repousse metal work. In 1993 he became a member of the UNESCO International Federation of Artists in recognition of his superior artistry. A master metal worker, Mr. Dadyan employs the techniques of chasing, repousse, filigree and granulation, wax casting, engraving and niello with equal virtuosity. Working in solid sterling silver with precious stones, Garri brings old world mastery to the new world that few can emulate.
The Armenian Queen’s Stiletto is a prime example of the sheer craftsmanship of this maker. Painstakingly sculpted from solid sterling silver, the handle features a row of meticulously faceted peridot. The intricacies of Garri’s work comes to full bear in the repousse of the sterling wrapped hardwood sheath with a decorative belt hoop.
The blade of this magnificent presentation dagger is nothing short of what you would expect. Mastersmith Hank Knickmeyer forged the complex Turkish Twist mosaic Damascus and formed the blade -- perfectly matching it to Dadyan's artistry. Nine separate bars of damascus were combined to form this complex and dramatic pattern. Both final grinding and heat treating were also done by Knickmeyer.
