Description: Garri Dadyan, born in Baku, Azerbaijan, was named a National Master Artist of the Soviet Union in 1985 for his unparalleled mastery of repousse metal work. In 1993 he became a member of the UNESCO International Federation of Artists in recognition of his superior artistry. A master metal worker, Dadyan employs the techniques of chasing, repousse, filigree and granulation, wax casting, engraving and niello with equal virtuosity. Working in solid sterling silver with precious stones, Garri brings old world mastery to the new world that few can emulate.
The Silver Serpent shows Dadyan's craftsmanship at its best. Painstakingly sculpted from solid sterling silver, the handle and sheath both complete in a serpent's head. The detail work on the handle and sheath are meticulously created by hand-chasing with small chisels.
The blade matches Dadyan's work perfectly. Mastersmith Hank Knickmeyer hand forged the multi-bar mosaic damascus blade. The blade is a complex mosaic Damascus -- a hallmark of Hank's work. Two bars of steel have been combined -- each forged from carbon steels. The edge bar is a complex twisted bar. The spine bar features Hank's butterflies and flowers patterns along with many more mosaic images. Both final grinding and heat treating were also done by Knickmeyer.
Exceptional work throughout!
