Description: This collaborative effect between Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey and their apprentice De Wet Van Zyl produced a unique war hammer that showcases their combined skill and inventiveness.
War hammers such as this were the dominant weapon for piercing armor during the violent 15th century wars. The solid axe head was hand forged fro D2 carbon steel and has been antiqued and hand engraved. The hollow hammering face has four puncturing points. The spike has three sharper points. The damascus langet (over-wrap) is not mere decoration. This protects the head from coming off of the haft during battle. The straight grained bubinga handle is accented with the lower half of the sculpted damascus langnets and hand hammered, antiqued copper rivets. A weapon such as this one would surely have caused some envy in the ranks! Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
