Description: Mastersmith Daniel Winkler and Karen Shook work together to create knives that have a timeless beauty that will quickly become family heirlooms. Their name is well known in re-enactment circles throughout the world and movie buffs may recognize their work in films such as Last of the Mohicans. Their knives. This hawk is an exceptional example of their work.
The 5160 carbon steel head was forged to shape and antique finished. The sharp spike is slightly downturned. The head is approximately 7 3/4 inches from cutting edge to the tip of the spike. The cutting edge measures 3 7/8". The curly maple haft is sculpted for a secure hand-hold and has been designed to complement the balance and appearance of the blade. Rawhide has been hand stitched to cover the handle to ensure a secure grip. The rawhide was painstakingly hand painted with multiple layers and antiqued for a true heirloom appearance. This was finally decorated with trade beads and feathers.
This Native American style tomahawk was crafted in the tradition of bladesmiths of a past era and designed for uncompromising performance for generations to come. Displays nicely in its own presentation stand. The stand was made from oak recovered from the steps from a cabin passed down through Karen Shook's family. Antler tines hold up the hawk. Exceptional work throughout!
