Description: Bill Burke, who was honored as a journeyman smith June 2003, makes knives that are as high performance as a knife can get. He is best known for his sheep horn hunting knives. Here, he has put his hands to a very rare and very elegant folder.
Like his hunters, the blades were pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treatment and tempering follow the formulas developed in conjunction with Ed Fowler, Bill's teacher, and has been proven to create some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere. The damascus is a highly complex mosaic Damascus bar forged from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels. The pattern displays a winding river of fire moving through the blades. Bill has included a spey blade and a clip point.
The scales are exhibition grade fossil mammoth ivory. Blue/green toned veins travel across a caramel toned background. The scales are perfectly fit to the 416 front and rear bolsters and are secured with stainless pins. The action is smooth and the blades perfectly centered. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
