Blade: Multi-bar mosaic Damascus blade by Mastersmith Hank Knickmeyer
Handle: Textured and sculpted sterling silver by Chantal Gilbert
Description: This exceptionally creative knife is a collaboration between Mastersmith Hank Knickmeyer and Chantal Gilbert. Hank is one of the first folks that introduced me to highly detailed mosaic Damascus steel and I continue to be amazed by the level of intricacy in his designs. His skill of implementation, control over Damascus and artistic vision is rarely matched. When Canadian jeweler and knifemaker Chantal Gilbert visited Hank and they began working on collaborative knives, the results were exceptional.
The blade is a complex mosaic Damascus -- a hallmark of Hank's work. Two bars of steel have been combined -- each forged from carbon steels. The edge bar is a complex twisted bar. The spine bar features Hank's butterflies and flowers patterns along with many more mosaic images.
The sterling silver handle combines impressions of humming birds and insects. The satin finished front is reminiscent of wings, whereas the rear section creates an impression of feathers or fur. Chantal brings her skills as a jeweler to her knifemaking and the results are exceptional. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
