Description: Tai Goo, one of the founders of The Neo-Tribal Metalsmiths, creates knives that have a unique sense of timelessness and a primitive power created through the perfection of the seemingly simple designs. Prior to becoming a bladesmith, Tai Goo studied jewelry making and blacksmithing. His prior work shows through his knives. Reflecting his Neo-Tribal approach, Tai Goo's shop is a very basic set up, creating his work primarily with hand hammers and simple hand tools.
From July 15th, 2007 - September 16th, 2007, The National Ornamental Metal Museum presented an exhibition, "Modern Art Knives: Beyond the Samurai Sword." A select group of makers, including Tai Goo were selected to show the best of their work. From within this select group, four knives were selected for the exhibition post card. This knife by Tai Goo was selected as one of the knives presented on the post card. The knife is accompanied by one of the show cards.
The bold Kukri blade has been distal tapered for optimal balance. The hand forged blade has a differential heat treatment. The resulting edge is extremely hard with a softer, supportive spine.
The zupele wood handle has been octagonally carved. A ferrule is formed from mokume gane and detailed with fine silver fittings. The knife is accompanied by a wooden sheath.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
