Description: Bladesmith Peter Bromley specializes in historical recreations. His work is creative and draws heavily on times gone by. This Replica Folding Bowie is based on a knife in Flayderman's classic book, The Bowie Knife: Unsheathing an American Legend. The original knife, which is show on page 399 also features an antler handle and similar fittings.
This style is a type well known by later makers as the "Explorer" model and was made by Sheffield cutlers as late as the beginning of the 20th century. When folded, this knife serves as a rugged, fixed blade Bowie with a 5 3/4 inch blade. When open, the 10 inch blade is immense. The blade was forged from 1075 carbon steel and features a differential heat treatment. The result is a strong blade with a long lasting edge and softer, supportive spine. The blade is released from its locked position by pinching the front guard. Nice work throughout on a knife that is very true to tradition!
