Description: Ray Kirk was honored to become a Mastersmith in June of 2006. The final stage of the test to become a master is to create five knives that are judged on fit, finish and artistry by the other masters. The test is extremely rigorous and makers spend months pouring over these knives, trying to make each one without any perfection. This is one of the five knives that made Ray a Mastersmith. It has been in a single private collection and has never been used to cut and has not been sharpened since it was made. By all appearances, it could have been created yesterday and is in new condition.
The clip point blade, oval guard, and ferrule are all forged from Ray's Firestorm pattern Damascus. By using 52100 and 15N20 for his steels, Ray has assured an extremely keen, long lasting edge. As is required for the test, the blade was forged to shape. The sides have been perfectly flat ground with virtually no secondary bevel. The white, pristine handle is formed from pre-ban elephant ivory. Accompanied by a leather sheath inlaid with crocodile hide. Exceptional work throughout!
