Description: Journeyman Smith Al Dippold is best known for his precision folders with complex Damascus patterns. When he makes the rare fixed blade, the result is exceptional. Al has long had a close friendship with fellow knifemaker Don Hanson. Don's influence is clearly seen in this hunter.
The blade was hand forged from 1086M carbon steel and heat treated using the traditional Japanese clay method -- resulting in a sharp, long lasting edge, and a softer, supportive spine. A gunome (gently undulating) hamon is clearly visible on the satin finished blade. The clip is brought just short of a sharpened edge and the spine has been fileworked.
An oval guard and ferrule are formed from copper. This brings out warm tones in the exhibition grade desert ironwood. The ironwood has a very dramatic grain structure and has been meticulously sculpted.
