Description: Al Dippold is undoubtedly one of the great masters of mosaic Damascus and of folding knives. His work is meticulous yet has a tremendous 'soul'.
The blade is mosaic Damascus forged from carbon steels. The mosaic pattern shows detailed 'rivers' of Damascus. This results in twisted bold images that can be seen and appreciated from a distance and fascinating detail that can be appreciated upon closer examination. The influence of Bladesmith Don Hanson III, one of Al's good friends, is clearly seen in the Damascus patterns.
Exhibition grade fossil mammoth ivory scales are a deep green on the surface and light caramel underneath. By sculpting the scales, Al is able to emphasize the ivory's dramatic colors. The scales meet seamlessly with mosaic Damascus bolsters in an elegant arch. 15N20 carbon steel liners have been heat blued to a deep purple. These surround the meticulously fileworked Damascus backbar. The blade is easily opened with a sapphire thumbstud set on a pedestal. Sculpting on the bolsters and scales nicely compliments the central fuller in the blade. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
