Description: 'Contortionist' is among my favorite folders to ever hold in my hands. Tremendous creativity and artistry went into the design and implementation of this masterpiece. The scales are sculpted into the shape of a woman's legs, gently arched to provide a comfortable grip. The spine of the blade is sculpted into a woman's profile, complete with 24k gold nipple and a belly button.
Hank is well known for creating some of the most creative and detailed Damascus found anywhere. In fact, the first time that I saw mosaic Damascus being created, it was at a session led by Hank at one of Mastersmith Rick Dunkerley's hammer-ins. The Damascus used throughout this gent's folder is Hank's "butterflies and flowers" pattern mosaic Damascus. The edge bar is "Twist" pattern Damascus forged from 1084 and L6 carbon steels. This mixture results in an optimal carbon ratio, which in turn leads to an edge that holds up very well under use.
The blade is perfectly centered and has optimal firm action for a slip joint folder. This mechanism allows the maker to create a folder that is sleeker in the hand. There is a stop at 90 and 180 degrees. Brass pins bring warm tones to the piece. The leather lanyard is held by an integral Damascus lanyard loop. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
