Description: Neil McKee's Africa is a great knife and an impressive period piece. The knife was forged to shape from a single 5160 round bar. At the bolster, the round-bar is nearly un-altered and spreads out into the tang and blade. Forging integral knives shows tremendous skill and patience, but is well worth the effort. Both the blade and tang have been distal tapered for a perfect balance. The blade has been differentially heat treated so that the knife will have a soft, supportive spine, and ultra hard, long lasting edge. After completing the heat treatment, that the temper line reminded him of the African continent! The spine has been fileworked to provide a secure thumb purchase. Sheep horn scales form and exceptional grip in the hand and are fastened with brass pins. Sheep horn has the unique quality of becoming "grippy" when they become wet -- making them perfect for a hunting knife. Excellent work throughout!
