Description: This art basket features an intricately carved representation of the life cycle of a stag beetle.
The basket has a turned rim and base formed from ziricote and is woven in super-fine carriage cane. The lid is sculpted from American cherry, Whidbey Island blacktail deer antler and pyrographed English boxwood. The stag beetle was carved by Tom Sterling from .999 fine silver and the stag beetle grub is carved from polychromed fossil ivory. Tom's experience as a netsuke artist clearly shines through in this exciting piece. Nesuke (small sculptural objects or toggles usually worn to suspend objects hung from the sash of the kimono) involves many hours of intricate carving. The basket measures 6 1/2 inches in diameter and measures approximately 6 3/4 inches tall. Exceptional work throughout.
