Description: "Flame Out" blends Nordic and Western style influences in this new piece from Jeff Driscoll. Fine silver inlaid and dyed flames encircle and envelope the flame maple palm swell handle and half wood sheath. The shape of the sheath also evokes a black powder horn.
The fileworked nickel silver bolster with red buffalo horn gives way to a hollow ground Damascus blade. The blade was forged and ground by renowned Swedish bladesmith Micke Andersson. A twist pattern spine is combined with a highly detailed firecracker edge. 15n20 and 20C carbon steels assure a keen, long lasting edge.
The form-fitting half wood sheath is inspired by the sheaths created by the Sami people of Scandinavia. The leather upper is nicely hand sewn. A red buffalo horn insert set inside minimizes sheath wear.
As is typical of Jeff's work, the design is well thought through and has tremendous integrity. The tang follows through the entire handle and is finally screwed into the fan shaped pommel nut. Excellent work throughout.
