Description: Amedeo Paolella has been a knifemaker for over 20 years. First drawn by a love of hunting to the world of hand-crafted knives, his creative temperament continually pushes him to realize knives in a very artistic manner.
Exactingly fileworked, sculpted and hammer-finished in his small shop in Villa Latina, Italy, his unmistakable style is most often characterized by a design with intense fileworking, sharpened shapes, blazing tongues and the pointed edges; all very much evident in The Piper’s Bowie.
The slightly domed cocus wood handle, coupled with the sculpted fore and rear guards, creates a rugged yet secure grip. During the 19th century, cocus wood became available from the West Indies and quickly became the standard timber for flutes and bagpipes from that period. Unfortunately supply was small, demand was insatiable and ecological management non-existent, to the extent that the timber came close to extinction. Cocus is once more available, in very small quantities, usually at a very high price. It remains an exceptionally strong, and beautiful wood.
Steel rivets set with garnets nicely accent the effect of the heat-blued, sculpted and textured 416 stainless steel guard. Spacers of vulcanized fiber cushion the materials from changes in temperature and add to the overall symmetry of design. A fully realized art knife concept with wonderful fit and finish throughout.
