Description: Mastersmith Audra Draper did her training under Mastersmith Ed Fowler. It is rare to find a hunter that is made by Audra from 52100 these days, as she has focused on Damascus. In fact, she no longer takes orders for knives with this exceptional steel. 52100, the blade steel used on this hunter is my favorite steel for edge retention. Forged from large ball bearings, it creates an aggressive, razor sharp edge that doesn’t stop. As if that weren't enough, Audra has given it a differential heat treat so that the spine is softer and supportive, whereas the edge is ultra hard. Additionally, Audra only rarely makes sheephorn hunters these days, so this is certainly a special treat. This knife has been in a single collection since it was forged by Audra in 2001 and has never been used to cut or been sharpened. It is in new condition.
The long blade, measuring in at just under 4 1/4 inches, is forged to shape by Audra. The heat treatment follows the formulas developed by Ed Fowler and has been proven to create some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere.
The gun grip handle is formed from sheephorn with a snakewood spacer. It is very comfortable in the hand. When wet, sheep horn does not become slippery, and it is amazingly durable. The handle on this one is exceptional! Great fit and finish throughout. Great feel in the hand.
