Description: This sole authorship Sami styled puukko is the exceptional work of Swedish bladesmith Henry Hildén. Henry has a fit and finish that is hard to beat and a sense of design that utilizes the styles of his homeland, Sweden, while having a style unique to him.
The blade was forged by Henry from Swedish carbon steels and will have excellent edge holding. Three separate bars of Damascus were forged into one: a twist pattern central core is surrounded by a firecracker pattern spine and edge. 1778 and 15N20 carbon steels were used, assuring a keen, long lasting edge.
The stacked handle is formed from a central section of sculpted deep black buffalo horn. This is flanked by sections of stabilized masur birch. Dark lines travel across a caramel background. This, in turn, is surrounded by cross-cut sections of fossil mammoth ivory. By cutting the ivory in this way, Henry reveals the captivating rings inherent to the ivory. The base shows off the fossil mammoth ivory bark. Nickel silver spacers are used throughout. The combination of dark tones and swirling grain structure in the masur birch with bright tones in the fossil ivory is very dramatic.
The Sami styled half horn sheath has a rigid leather upper that has been highly sculpted and tooled. The lower section is formed from buffalo horn with masur birch inlaid into the center of the front.
Exceptional work throughout.
