Description: This exceptional two handed saber is the work of up-and-coming maker Michael Rader. Michael forged the slender, upswept blade to shape from his own Damascus starting with L6 and 15N20 carbon steels. By forging the blade to shape, Michael has assured exceptional strength and beauty -- the bold Damascus pattern follows the upswept shape.
The S-guard and pommel are also both forged from Michael's Damascus. The pommel is formed from 200 layer striped pattern Damascus whereas the S-guard moves from pool and eye pattern Damascus at the blade to random pattern Damascus toward the handle. The result is exceptional.
Vulcanized spacer material separates the guard from the handle, allowing for slight temperature and humidity changes. The handle is formed from purple heart with zebra wood circle details. Fileworked sections assure a perfect, secure hand hold. Showing tremendous skill in his fit and finish, the hand is disassemblable and is internally bedded with Acraglass (gunstock bedding resin).
The handle and saya compliment each other -- the one made from purple heart with zebra wood details -- the other made from zebra wood with purple heart accents. This reflection of light and dark woods is a nice effect and creates a saber that integrates well with its wooden sheath. saya. Both the sheath and the handle are finished with 15 coats of teak oil for a resilient, high luster finish.
Exceptional work throughout.
