Description: Each year, at Blade Show, bladesmiths test to join the ranks of journeymen and masters. Five knives are made by each applicant that are the height of their work at the time. These knives are judged by ABS Mastersmiths on fit and finish, as well as general artistry. Each must be forged to shape from carbon steel. The standards are exacting. With this exceptional knife, Ricardo Vilar gained the ranks of ABS Journeyman Smith at the 2005 Blade Show.
Ricardo Vilar is one of the makers that has brought the Brazilian knife market to the forefront of American collectors' minds. His designs and attention to detail clearly set him apart as a leader.
The clip point blade was forged to shape from 5160 carbon steel. The blade has been meticulously hand satin finished. A differential heat treatment assures a keen, long lasting edge. The stainless steel oval guard, ferrule and distal tapered blade result in an optimal balance in the hand. The Brazilian rosewood handle has been sculpted to swell at the palm and toward the butt, for a sure grip.
As you would expect, the fit and finish is excellent.
