Description: Larry began this recurve knife by forging wootz, the pre-cursor to modern Damascus. The technique for making wootz, though lost for hundreds of years have been re-discovered in the last decade. The technique involves forging the steel using a crucible method, patiently working out impurities while forging. The result is a dramatic, detailed criss-cross of lines indicative of this ancient technique.
The recurve blade features a fileworked spine. The guard has been forward-canted, resulting in great "flow" to the knife. The handle is formed from a single piece of fossil walrus ivory artifact. This ancient ivory was turned into a fishing weight in the mid 1800's. The hole at the butt was created during this stage in its life. Exceptional work throughout.
