Description: This majestic Japanese influenced katana is the work of up-and-coming maker Michael Rader. Michael forged the long, slender blade to shape from his own Damascus starting with L6 and 15N20 carbon steels. A nearly full length swedge aids material flow around the blade. By forging the blade to shape, Michael has assured exceptional strength and beauty -- the Damascus pattern follows the shape of the upturned blade.
The oval tsuba was formed from stainless steel. Michael has created a "crop circle" design that incorporates sections that satin finished and others that are textured. The result is exceptional.
Leather spacers surround the handle to allow it to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. The handle and saya compliment each other -- the one made from ipe with curly maple accents -- the other made from curly maple with ipe accents. This reflection of light and dark woods is a nice effect and creates a katana that integrates well with its saya. Exceptional!
