Description: Every so often there is a knife that is truly exceptional -- a knife that eclipses other knives in artistry, implementation, materials, and theme. This is one of those knives.
The theme begins with heat blued Gibeon meteorite scales. The Gibeon meteorite landed in Great Namaqualand, Namibia, Africa and radio carbon dates to over 4 billion years old. Its fragments are spread over one of the largest strewn fields in the world, measuring 70 miles wide by 230 miles long and have a distinctive pattern known as the Widmanstatten pattern, which is one of the richest and most distinct patterns found in meteorites.
The meteorite has been heat colored, etched and inlaid with fine stones. The complex criss-crossing of lines inherent to meteorite shines through. The earth is engraved on each side of the knife as the central piece. Two meteorites fly toward it -- one made from ruby, the other from hematite. The tails are inlaid with 24kt gold. Diamonds set in 18k gold bezels shine as stars in the background. Two planets are shown to the side of the Earth -- one a red ruby, the other sapphire. A moonstone moon circles the Earth.
The mirror polished, heat colored blade is forged from several different types of carbon steel so as to have several different tones of blue, purple and silver. It has amongst the smoothest action of any blade that I have ever felt. It is Perfectly centered and is easily opened using the diamond thumb stud.
15N20 carbon steel liners have been fileworked and gold heat colored. These surround the fileworked blue heat colored 1084 carbon steel backbar. The screws are fileworked and heat colored. The interior is mirror polished and has been fully detailed. Exceptional!
