Description: This is among the most impressive knives that I have ever come across by Mastersmith Daniel Winkler. This is the sort of work that has made Daniel Winkler and Karen Shook household words in re-enactment circles throughout the world. Their knives have an authenticity rarely found in other makers' work and a primitive power that is immediately captivating.
The 9 3/4 in. blade is forged to shape from a dramatic, high contrast Damascus that Daniel calls "smoke" pattern. The flats have been textured to resemble the patterns found on an old ferrier's rasp. The spine has been fileworked for a secure thumb grip. The massive stag crown handle fits comfortably into the hand and has an antiqued and textured mild steel and copper butt cap. The ferrule is also formed from mild steel and copper and is surrounded by sinew. Karen Shook's sheath perfectly matches the tone of the belt knife, incorporating trade beads, tin cones, horse hair and rawhide. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
