Description: Mastersmith Hank Knickmeyer is well known for creating some of the most detailed and dramatic Damascus found anywhere. The sleek blade of Early Artifact is a two bar composite forged from carbon steels. The edge bar is a twist pattern. The spine bar is a complex mosaic of flowers and the occasional 'HK' (one of Hank's hallmarks). The Damascus is high contrast and could be inspected for hours!
The fossil walrus ivory had been made into a fishing weight at c. 1850 and still shows the full tool markings on the lanyard hole. A check moves along the left side of the handle and was stabilized by Hank. Exceptional work throughout.
