Description: Mastersmith Rick Dunkerley is best known for his detailed folders that have been part of defining the Montana Boys' knives. As the owner of Mineral Creek Outfitters, however, Rick sees the need for precision hunting knives that are the pinnacle of a use knife and so each year he makes a small number of hunting knives. This dressed up hunter is exceptional.
Rick began by forging a mosaic Damascus blade forged from 15N20 and 1084 carbon steels. By choosing steels that will result in an optimal amount of carbon, Rick has forged a blade that will have excellent edge retention. The blade has been distal tapered resulting in an optimal balance. The spine and belly of the handle are fully fileworked in a vine pattern. By recessing the exhibition grade mammoth ivory away from the edge, Rick has helped to protect it from impact. This also allows the fileworked tang to provide an exceptional hand hold. As you would expect, the fit and finish is spectacular.
