Description: This exceptional dagger is the work of Mastersmith Kirk Rexroat. Kirk is well known for his high attention to detail and dramatic knives.
The long (13 1/2 inches!) blade is a two bar composite Damascus. Kirk started by forging Damascus bars that he calls Quasar pattern. These were then set up in opposing directions and forge welded together. Showing a tremendous control over the Damascus, Kirk set up the forge weld right at the center grind, such that the break of the grind would show up directly over the merging of the two bars. It was executed perfectly!. The ricasso has been sculpted and moves nicely into the hot blued, anodized titanium quillions.
The titanium ferrule has been fileworked and hot blued to match the quillions. Exhibition grade fossil mammoth ivory is set on fileworked, titanium liners. The mammoth ivory has been dovetailed to the rear titanium bolsters for a perfect fit.
Exceptional work throughout. Perhaps no surprise that this knife has been featured in Knives 2005.
