Description: I have long been a fan of Roger Bergh's work. His control over Damascus and his skill at combining exotic materials set him apart as an artist. It is with great pleasure that I can present one of the true masterpieces created by Roger.
The blade is a multi-bar composite forged from three separate Damascus bars. The spine and edge are a firecracker pattern forged from 15N20 and 20C carbon steels. These steels result in an optimal carbon ratio for a long lasting edge. The center bar is a checkerboard pattern, also forged from carbon steels.
The front "bolster" is created from side cut fossil mammoth ivory. Facing toward the blade, the bark is visible, showing off caramels and light blues. The sculpted sides show off the dramatic grain inherent to mammoth ivory. Stacked spacers created from dyed, stabilized box elder burl have a tight, twisting pattern and nicely set off the fossil ivory and sculpted warthog tusk handle.
A Celtic hound is carved into the warthog tusk in incredible detail. The face has tremendous life-like personality, with a natural appearance. Surprisingly for such a heavily sculpted knife, the handle is extremely comfortable and fits perfectly into the hand.
As you would expect, the fit and finish are exceptional and the impact tremendous.
