Description: Jeff Driscoll has an amazing sense of design, creating unique knives that are extremely well executed. He pulls heavily on Nordic knives, using blades from the best bladesmiths from Nordic countries. His work is done primarily without the use of motorized tools, which allows him to hand-carve the handles in much more detail than would be done using motorized knifemaking tools.
This knife was inspired by Moorish architecture such as the Alhambra in Spain. Combining the Swedish influence that pervades Jeff's work with Moorish influences results in one of the most captivating art knives that we have had in some time.
The blade was forged by renowned Swedish bladesmith Mattias Styrefors. The center of the multi-bar composite is mosaic Damascus forged from 15N20 and 20C carbon steels along with pure nickel. The edge and spine bars are a firecracker pattern and are forged from 15N20 and 20C for exceptional edge holding. The blade has been heat blued to dark tones.
The front bolster and pommel are both formed from Arctic moose antler. This has been inlaid with reconstituted sugalite, which has in turn been inlaid with nickel silver. The bolster and pommel are joined to the handle with a recessed mortise and tenon joint for a secure, strong fit. The central handle is sculpted from oosic. Nickel silver pins decorate the spine.
The sheath is sculpted from Brazilian rosewood. On the side, a sliding window reveals the blade, closing and opening as the blade is inserted. The sliding holder is formed from fossil mammoth ivory and hold the knife securely so that it cannot be shaken out, yet allows for easy and quick removal -- a fantastic mechanism!
Showing an amazing degree of craftsmanship, this knife can be completely disassembled using the large sheath window as a key for the pommel decoration. Excellent work throughout on a very unique knife.
