Description: Tai Goo, one of the founders of The Neo-Tribal Metalsmiths, creates knives that have a unique sense of timelessness and a primitive power created through the perfection of the seemingly simple designs. Prior to becoming a bladesmith, Tai Goo studied jewelry making and blacksmithing. His prior work shows through his knives. Reflecting his Neo-Tribal approach, Tai Goo's shop is a very basic set up, creating his work primarily with hand hammers and simple hand tools.
Meteorite Fetish is a spectacular example of his work and was created in 1999. It has been in a single collection and is in new condition.]
The Damascus steel blade is forged from wrought iron, A2 and other carbon steels and genuine meteorite. The tight random pattern is very pleasing to the eye. The blade has been sculpted for a unique appearance. Drawing on Japanese designs, Tai create a copper hibaki (blade collar) and a front plate from his own mokume gane (forged from copper and brass).
The handle is a sculpted fetish, formed in ironwood. The sculpting is tremendously performed and shows skill, patience, and artistic vision. An exceptional example of Tai Goo's work! Excellent fit and finish throughout.
