Description: Roger Bergh has a sense of creativity and design that is rarely found on other makers' work and in Iron Mosaic, his skill and sense of design are undeniable. The handle has been sculpted, both for appearance and to create a tremendous fit in the hand. The natural grain of the desert ironwood is particularly choice with dramatic swirls of lighter browns and nearly black. The 'bolster' is formed from a piece of crosscut mammoth ivory. By cross-cutting the ivory, Roger has revealed the intricate grain structure hidden within. The front face shows off the bark -- caramel with blue/green veins. The butt is finished off with a sterling silver lanyard, showing off the influence of Roger's partner, Swedish jeweler Sara-Mi Liljeholm.
A master at the forge, Roger has created the blade from five separate Damascus bars. The central three mosaic bars show off a high contrast, all the more so by including pure nickel. The edge and spine are both firecracker pattern Damascus and have been forged from 15N20 and 20C carbon steels.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
