Description: Neil McKee's Grassfire Bowie is a massive, impressive period piece. The blade, which measures a full 12" in length, was forged from 5160 carbon steel. Neil has done a differential heat treatment whereby the spine is soft and supportive, but the edge is hard -- resulting in a strong, long lasting edge. The transition line is a type that Neil calls "Grassfire" -- a winding horizon line shows smoke plumes rising. At the spine, Neil has left the remnants of a hammer finish for an antique appearance. Above and in front of the ricasso, Neil has fileworked the spine. The elk leg bone handle fits very comfortably in the hand and provides a secure purchase. He finished off the handle with a 1943 silver coin inlaid into the butt cap. Excellent work throughout!
