Description: This is a very rare example of Don Hanson's work. Don is best known for his highly detailed folders, forged from his complex mosaic Damascus patterns. He has brought all his attention to detail making folders and created this exceptional fixed blade.
The long, sleek blade was forged from 1084 carbon steel and was hardened using the traditional Japanese clay technique. The resulting blade shows off a dramatic, flowing hamon, or differential heat treatment line. This line shows that the spine is soft and supportive, whereas the edge is very hard -- resulting is a strong, long lasting edge.
The blade leads perfectly into Don's detailed mosaic Damascus bolsters. A complex range of pictures are displayed ranging from ants, to radial stars and skulls -- showing tremendous control over the medium. Fossil mammoth ivory scales meet perfectly to the Damascus bolsters. Both the bolsters and scales are attached with 24k gold plated pins, bringing a sense of warmth to the knife. Both the blade and tang are distal tapered, resulting in optimal balance. The feel in the hand and fit and finish are each exceptional.
