Description: Award winning Swedish bladesmith Henry Hildén held nothing back when he created this Swedish hunter. The multi-bar composite blade is forged from five bars. Firecraker pattern Damascus (forged from CK100 and 15N20 carbon steels) surrounds bars of pure nickel and a central bar of CK100 carbon steel. All this has been heat colored. Dark tones predominate with highlights of gold and burgundy. The choice of steels guarantees exceptional edge retention. The pattern is extremely clear and shows tremendous control and skill.
The handle features a series of stacked spacers at the front which provide a secure hand hold and optimal balance. Basket weave mosaic Damascus steel is combined with silver and caramel toned fossil mammoth ivory. The sculpted handle is formed from exhibition grade masur birch that has been dyed and stabilized. It has a tremendous, swirling grain pattern and a nice deep tone. The right side features decorative pinwork, one of the hallmarks of Henry's work.
The knife is displayed on a presentation stand, also created by Henry. The knife rest is forged from twist pattern Damascus steel. Buffalo horn supports the tip. The base is sculpted from masur birch, showing off beautiful warm tones.
The fit and finish is extremely well executed, from the meeting between the blade and bolster to the sculpting on the handle. An amazing collector's find!
