Description: This exceptional integral Bowie was forged to shape using a single bar of mosaic Damascus, from blade, to double bolsters to tang. The pattern was developed by forge welding three different steels into 79 layers, then quartering and re-welding. The billet was then manipulated (accordioned) in the blade area and opened up to show the beautiful radial pattern inside the billet while leaving the bolster and pommel area as they were formed -- almost like a butterfly evolving from a cocoon. The result of this tremendously skilled process can be seen in the up close shot of the backbar as it moves through the bolster area. In the spine of the blade, the Damascus is accordioned and therefore undulates down the blade. In the bolters and tang, the Damascus lines move through with straight precision, with the Mosaic Damascus pattern hidden from view. The mosaic pattern is visible on the base of the pommel. African blackwood scales are fit with precision between the double Damascus bolsters and are set with five nickel silver pins. Exceptionally creative with a great fit and finish throughout!
