Description: Tai Goo, one of the founders of The Neo-Tribal Metalsmiths, creates knives that have a unique sense of timelessness and a primitive power created through the perfection of the seemingly simple designs. Prior to becoming a bladesmith, Tai Goo studied jewelry making and blacksmithing. His prior work shows through his knives. Reflection his Neo-Tribal approach, Tai Goo's shop is a very basic set up, creating his work primarily with hand hammers and simple hand tools.
Vera Wood Wharncliffe shows off Tai Goo's work at its best. He began with 1065 carbon steel which he forged to shape from round bar. A differential heat treatment assures that the edge will have exceptional edge holding, whereas the softer spine will be supportive. The blade has been distal tapered for an exceptional balance in the hand. The bolster is integral to the blade and leads into the fileworked sterling silver ferule. Exhibition grade vera wood forms the handle. The criss-crossing grain structure is very unique, reminding me of the hair on a boar's back. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
