Description: Bladesmith Nick Wheeler is among the most promising up and coming makers that I have encountered for quite some time. This clip point hunter has deceptively simple lines, but a feel and appearance that is uniquely Nick's work. The blade was first hand forged, then clay hardened. The result is a blade with a softer, resilient spine, and an edge that is extremely hard. Hand polishing reveals the much prized hamon (clay heat treatment line). The joint between blade and stainless steel guard is perfectly executed. The guard was created from stacked stainless steel separated by kydex, for a very pleasing effect. The handle is sculpted from exhibition grade ironwood burl. The swirling grain structure is very pleasing to the eye. The hard wood will hold up well under use. A mosaic pin secures the enclosed tang. Swelling gently at the palm and butt, the handle is tremendously comfortable in the hand. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
