Description: This neck knife by Raymond Richard has an ageless sense of grace that is rarely found in knives. The shear steel used for the blade was recovered from a turn of the century circular lumber saw blade. This type of steel was developed to withstand the heavy stresses of lumber mills. Raymond has etched the surface, revealing the wootz-like grain structure. A small amount of copper in the etching solution has created hints of copper on the blade. A differential heat treatment assures that the spine is soft and resilient, whereas the edge is hard and will maintain a keen edge.
The wrought iron for the fittings is forged from an 1800s era anchor chain. The dark cocobolo handle has a swirling grain structure. Raymond has set a magnet on the right side of the wooden sheath, which directs the blade perfectly into place and holds it securely for one of the most satisfying sheaths that I have encountered to date.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
