Description: This is an outstanding collaborative masterpiece by Tom Sterling and JP Higgins. Joe Higgins, who has been flint knapping knives for over 10 years, created the massive blade. This skill is matched in the detailed handle created by Tom Sterling, who has brought his attention to detail learned as an internationally known netsuke artist to this piece.
The black walnut handle has been pyrographed in a detailed Celtic knot work motif. Details are created in yew. Matching detailing is continued on the wooden shield. The blade is large and beautifully percussion flaked from silver sheen obsidian. The resulting blade has an almost damascene appearance. Blades of this size are very unusual. Rocks this large are hard to come by. Additionally, very few knappers can successfully create a blade of these dimensions.
The black walnut shield has matching Celtic knot work detailing and a central ornament sculpted from yew with ebony detailing. The reverse has a hand sewn leather handle.
Walnut display rack included.
